Claude Designs Better Quantum Circuits

Anthropic’s STEM Fellows report order-of-magnitude gains in some cases.

New from Anthropic’s STEM Fellows Program: given plain-language instructions, Claude Mythos 5 designed quantum circuits that improve on the best published ones, sometimes by an order of magnitude or more, the company announced on October 16.

More efficient circuits reduce the resources quantum algorithms need, Anthropic said, which could bring quantum computing applications in chemistry and materials science within reach sooner.

@kimmonismus highlighted a passage from the work: “Working largely on its own, Claude found designs that improve on the best published circuits, in some cases by an order of magnitude or more. Such improvements substantially reduce the quantum resources that useful applications require, so practical quantum computers could arrive sooner than previously anticipated.” His comment: “RSI within reach.”
