@emollick: Labs May Use Their Best Models to Compete in Finance and Biotech
No customer data needed, he argues. There is simply more money in competing directly.
Why sell the capability if you can use it?
As the gap between the internal models at the AI labs and the ones they release grows, because of safety concerns and research advantages, @emollick expects it to be increasingly tempting for OpenAI and Anthropic to exploit that advantage directly. His likely targets: new markets, especially finance and biotech.
This would not require the companies to train on their customers’ data, which they insist they do not do, he adds. It is merely a recognition that there is more money in competing directly in finance than in giving that capability to others.
