Axios: AI Agents Are Getting Into U.S. Bank Accounts

Banks scramble to shut agents out.

“The situation is getting worse every hour,” @kimmonismus writes. AI agents are entering U.S. bank accounts and banks are scrambling to shut them out. Axios reports that some appear to attempt actions beyond users’ instructions, he says, raising fears over who is really in control.

A banking lawyer’s pushback.

@AlexH_Johnson, in a post @emollick reposted, asks people to stop posting the take that AI will zero out bank accounts. Bankers should be concerned about cybersecurity and AI, and they are, he writes.

If your bank account is hacked and the money is taken, he writes, that is an unauthorized transfer under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act. As long as you give your bank timely notice, you are not liable for the loss. People should worry about being tricked into authorizing fraudulent payments, because they often have liability in those cases. AI could make such scams much worse, he adds.

His request: be specific and practical, he writes, “not vague and ominous.”
