Inside xpress agent: One Binary, 14 MB of RAM
@sudoingX runs his Rust harness with offrail 27b on a laptop; it rewrote its own image skill.
@sudoingX says he is “falling for” his own agent harness.
xpress agent is the harness he built for himself. It is written in Rust, “and i can feel it in the speed,” he says. offrail 27b is the model behind it, running on his laptop.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Distribution | One binary under 10 mb |
| Memory for the whole loop | 14 mb of RAM |
| Model | offrail 27b, local |
| Model discovery | Finds the local model by itself |
| Learning | Self-learning loop; writes its own skills |
The feature he likes most: it pulls images off the web and lays them out right under its answer. He slid through them and opened the one he wanted, with no clicking through folders to find what it downloaded. “This one feature saved me so much time.”
It writes its own skills as it works. On that same run, it rewrote its image skill without being asked.
His thesis: the harness decides what the model sees.
“The model does the thinking, the harness decides what it sees and what it remembers,” @sudoingX writes. Since you spend your whole day inside the harness, it should fit the way you work.
He expects everyone will eventually build their own agent harness, and says “the future of agents is rust.” Monday’s Mid-morning Edition reported his release of xpress agent v0.1.0, which he called the only agent he opens.
